'' Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them.''

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ralph Waldo Emerson was born May 26, 1803, in Boston, Massachusetts. He died in his sleep on April 27, 1882 at age 79.  He had six other siblings, four brothers and two sisters.  Ralph Waldo Emerson was a writer.  He wrote forty-eight books.  He also wrote essays about people like explorers and American heroes.

Emerson said this peace quote during the Civil War (1861-1865) because it took brave men and women to win the war.   He is on the coin for THE SHOT HEARD ROUND THE WORLD.  He is the head side of the coin as you can see above.  That coin is in The Hall Of Fame For Great Americans in New York.  He believed that instead of going to church or something like that to find God, you could just look inside yourself and find God there.  He also fought against slavery and all its horrors.
